Directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg, Ready Player One is one of the coolest movies ever made.  Universal Pictures was so interested in this project that they bought the film rights roughly a year before the book the film is based on was even published.

The film did very well at the time in the box office and has met the test of time with a current Rotten Tomatoes score of 86%. This is rather impressive for a movie that even according to Michael Crichton had the audience laughing at the wrong times. The movie doesn’t stand up to the two successful seasons of the HBO show, but it remains very watchable for its own reasons.

Love it or hate it, cryptocurrency is a trending topic for the digital age. Encrypted currency, like Bitcoin, is either lauded for working independently from bank regulation, or loathed for being used on the dark web for various nefarious reasons, like illegal drug or firearm trade. 

A big movie with commentary on classism, overpopulation, the trajectory of healthcare in the modern world, and the integration of technology and humanity, Elysium pushes you to think about what kind of future we’re making in the world, and it does all this with a very cool aesthetic while still embracing the big summer blockbuster feeling. 

Like most kids, you absolutely knew what you wanted to be when you grew up – a firefighter, a police officer, or even an astronaut, destined for intergalactic exploration. As an adult you gained experience and worked hard, making that dream possible. However, a five second genetic scan determined you unable to accomplish that goal.

Venus is a short live-action science-fiction film inspired by cyberpunk classics like Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell, and more broadly, films such as Ex Machina, Under the Skin, and Cam.  Their Kickstarter campaign ends Thursday, 6/27/19 and has already reached it’s base goal of funding.    Consider backing this effort to make this project even better!

Throughout his own filmography, he has become the poster boy for cyberpunk in film. Even though it is not every movie, or even that often, his interest in the genre helps push the movement forward to the spotlight. It’s a neon spotlight, but a spot light nonetheless.
