The Matrix 4 Begins Filming in San Francisco

Filming for The Matrix 4 has begun – and the crew is not keeping it much of a secret.

Streets throughout the city of San Francisco are blocked off, one sign that you have found the right place if you’re a fan of The Matrix series. But if you are lucky enough to get close to the active set, will you see some of your favorite actors and actresses?

There is no guarantee you will see Keanu Reeves randomly walking around the location, but it is not out of question.

Reeves is well-known for being one of the most approachable members of Hollywood, and his interactions with fans regularly go viral.

Fans are not the only ones hoping to catch a glimpse of The Matrix 4 star. Local media report on Reeves’ every move, which includes eating ice cream outside a Baskin-Robbins on Blanding Avenue.

What we know so far about The Matrix 4 filming

It has been 17 years since The Matrix Revolutions, which was the last time we saw Neo grace the big screen. But will we be able to recognize the cyber-warrior in this chapter of the series? According to reports  the first set shots of the movie show Reeves looking nothing like previous versions of Neo. The trademark clothing and black sunglasses are nowhere to be found.

He looks more like a guy standing outside a Baskin-Robbins eating ice cream; beard and all.

You have probably noticed the words ‘ice cream’ a few times in this article. There is a reason for that; the film is under the code name ‘Project Ice Cream.’

With filming just beginning in San Francisco, details of the plot or what will take place in the movie is not known. But rumors imply that the movie contains time travel. Only time will tell.

Doodling in the Sky With a Helicoptor

As mentioned before, it has almost been two decades since the last Matrix movie. Since then, the invention of social media and the advancement of other various technological resources have made it easier to track what is going on in the world.

A perfect example is this Twitter account tracking the flight of helicopters that are filming scenes of The Matrix 4.

This past Sunday, scenes that contained simulated gunfire were taped by a “low-flying” helicopter. And according to the Twitter account @SkyCirclesSF  the aircraft was a “1997 Eurocopter AS 350 B2.” The account also notes that the copter was flying only 550 feet above the city at a speed of six miles-per-hour.

The tweet includes a picture of the flight pattern of the low-flying helicopter, and it looks more like a seven-year-old child had fun with a crayon than an actual organized flight. But we are sure it will look great when post-production puts their magic touch on it.

Reunited and it feels so good

Not only do we have Keanu Reeves coming back to play Neo, but we also have co-star Carrie Anne-Moss returning to play Trinity. Franchise actress Jada Pinkett Smith also returns.

The series welcomes newcomers Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (who will be playing the younger version of Morpheus, played by Laurence Fishburne, in the initial trilogy).

But Warner Bros. is more enthusiastic about writer and director Lana Wachowski returning to the series.

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana,” proclaims Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich  “Lana is a true visionary and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”

The Matrix 4 is set for a release date of May 21, 2021 – the same day as Reeves’ other successful series’ installment of the John Wick films. It’s Reeves vs. Reeves in 2021. Or the Year of Reeves. Either way, The Matrix 4 will be a big hit in theaters as fans have waited almost two decades for this movie.

Hey, chum. These posts don't write themselves. If you wanna stay in the know, it's gotta be a two way street.*
